The
Kid-Dee-LiteTM enables a dynamic treatment of a child's foot.
The ankle joint is small and light enough to fit the ankle foot
orthosis for young children under 5 years of age or below 25kg
of weight.
An articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) provides range of motion adjustment to mobilize the foot into more natural, yet controlled, biomechanical function. This way of dynamic conservative treatment is reported to be more effective for the spastic Cerebral Palsy patient. In this treatment there is also noticed a stretching of the Achilles tendon and a decrease in muscle tone of the Triceps-Surae muscle. As a result spasm control may be improved.
To control the ankle movements
there must also be control of the plantar- and dorsal flexion.
This versatile joint can be adjusted for plantar- and dorsal
flexion over a range of motion of 40º and will withstand
a force of 16Nmtr. The combined medial and lateral joint will
take a force of 32Nmtr. which is more than adequate for the small
children mentioned.
